WilliamsMarston Clears the Way for Investigative Clarity and Stronger Internal Controls
Learn how WM helped a data and analytics company became aware an employee used company funds to purchase and resell computers for personal gain.
The Challenge
Urgent Investigation Needed to Uncover Scope of Unauthorized Purchases
With fragmented internal data and no prior experience with an issue like this, the Company required an urgent, independent investigation to (1) quantify unauthorized purchases, (2) determine whether additional employees were involved or aware, (3) assist with insurance claim preparation, and (4) identify remediation steps to prevent recurrence.
The Solution
WM experts provided a comprehensive independent investigation and insurance support
In partnership with outside counsel, WM conducted a comprehensive independent investigation including interviewing the subject and other company employees, analyzing five years of purchase and expense activity, quantifying the scope of the misconduct, and identifying recommendations for control and process improvements.
WM also prepared the narrative and analytical submissions required by the Company’s insurance provider and the local District Attorney.
The Result
WM’s investigation equipped the company with the clarity and evidence needed to take decisive action
WM’s investigation gave the Company a clear understanding of the financial impact of the misconduct and confirmed that the issue was limited to a single employee. The comprehensive documentation enabled the Company to advance its insurance claim with confidence, while WM’s targeted recommendations strengthened internal controls and reduced the likelihood of similar issues recurring.
