Sam Torff
Director – Accounting Advisory
Sam brings nine years of accounting and reporting experience to WilliamsMarston. Since joining WilliamsMarston, Sam has advised both public and private clients in the biotechnology, technology, and engineering industries on a variety of technical accounting issues including revenue recognition, investments, clinical accruals, and debt modification. He has supported clients throughout their external audit and monthly close processes, in addition to providing SOX control enhancement services. He has also advised private-equity backed clients on financial reporting and business process improvement.
Prior to WilliamsMarston, Sam held various roles of increasing responsibility at a private equity backed technology company. Sam’s responsibilities included managing the monthly close process and implementing accounting process improvements. Sam also worked through the analysis and documentation of various technical accounting topics including those related to business combinations, share-based compensation, debt and equity issuances, revenue recognition, and leases.
Prior to working in corporate accounting roles, Sam worked in the Assurance practice at EY LLP for five years and was based out of their Boston office. While at EY, Sam’s clients included both public and private companies in the technology, biotechnology, and oil & gas industries. He provided assurance services pertaining to US GAAP, SEC reporting, IPO Readiness, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Sam is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
